Biography

Murtaza Wasi

I am a biomedical researcher with a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and postdoctoral training in Biomedical Engineering. My research focuses on understanding how cells and tissues respond to mechanical and biochemical signals and using that knowledge to evaluate therapeutic strategies in preclinical models.

Across my doctoral and postdoctoral work, I have developed and applied in vivo disease models, pharmacological interventions, intravital and light-sheet imaging, micro-CT, histology, biomechanical testing, and computational image analysis. My work spans skeletal disease, cancer-associated bone loss, aging and treatment-related tissue degeneration, and osteocyte mechanotransduction.

My approach combines biological questions with engineering-based experimental design and quantitative analysis. I have experience developing and optimizing in vivo and imaging-based assays, evaluating pharmacological and therapeutic responses, and integrating cellular, molecular, structural, and functional endpoints to understand disease mechanisms. I am particularly interested in applying these skills to preclinical research, drug development, disease modeling, assay development, and translational science.
